MY METHODS OF WORKING

ROTTWEILER - Work in progress

I'm currently working on a new collection of 14 extra breeds of dog to add to the 'Pawtraits' series of dog illustrations .. this will take it to 52 breeds!!!

Thought i'd take a few snap shots to give everyone a little idea how I go about creating my dog collages. I start by collecting reference photos of the breed, then I do several  pencil sketches  getting the correct shapes, features and proportions. I initially work on a small scale, then trace and enlarge the final pencil drawings. The next stage is painting papers and collecting tweed patterns, newsprint and vintage papers. Once I have my ingredients  I can begin the challenge of cutting out the relevant areas and shapes to create the collages and finally when I am happy with the composition I glue everything down to complete the original design.
